Next event: Boozy Bakes!

The theme for our next event is going to be boozy bakes!  At the end of our last meeting, it was suggested we have alcoholic cakes as our next theme as I'd mentioned my favourite cake is Chocolate Guinness Cake and other ideas were flying around, so boozy bakes it is!

Obviously I will be baking the Guinness Cake so that's already taken but get in quick with your choices as other ideas could also be popular!  Some suggestions on the night were gin & tonic cake, marsala cake and tiramisu cake.  Or think cocktails - mojito or pina colada cupcakes for example!  I've pinned LOADS of ideas on the Uckfield WI Pinterest page too.

Our poll to choose a date is now closed and the most popular date is Sunday 29th May at 7:30pm

As always, if you'd like to attend, please email Becky with your name and choice of bake and you will be sent the venue details a week before the event.  Places and choice of bake are allocated on a first come, first served basis so get in quick if you'd like to attend as places are limited  :)

Event report: Yellow

On Sunday 3rd April we held our second event, the first since welcoming new Uckfield WI members to join us as their sub-group.  The evening was a great success despite 6 drop outs, with 5 new members, 4 of whom were WI members.  We had a great array of yellow themed goodies with lemon being a popular choice but still having some good variation amongst the bakes.

I made Passionfruit Melting Moments, a biscuit I've made before and loved, despite them spreading and being much more fragile than intended (and the same happened again but I now have a few tips to try next time I attempt them!).  These biscuits are actually the ones in the blog and Facebook profile photos.

Jo W made a delicious Victoria Sponge with home made lemon curd and lashings of whipped cream (which only just survived the journey in the car!)

Pamela M made a Whole Lemon Cake with a mascarpone icing, yum.

Helen C made a lovely moist Lemon Drizzle Loaf Cake!

Bella R made some slightly unusual but very nice Lemon & Basil Shortcake Biscuits.

And finally, Lyndsey W made awesome Lemon Meringue Cupcakes.

Thank you to everyone who came along!  Many cups of tea were drunk, biscuit troubleshooting tips discussed among other various topics as well as generally getting to know one another.   It was a lovely evening and we've already chosen a fun theme for our next event!  More info to follow soon.

Comment below if you're interested in recipes for any of the bakes above and I'll do my best to share them here :)
